Bacardi Cocktail
A close cousin to the classic Daiquiri, the Bacardi Cocktail is a historic and legally protected drink. It swaps simple syrup for the sweet-tart flavor of grenadine, creating a vibrant, pink-hued sour that's both refreshing and beautifully simple.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bacardi Superior Rum
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- ½ oz Grenadine
- Garnish: Lime Wheel
Instructions
- Chill Your Glass: Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer to get it frosty cold.
- Combine and Shake: Add the Bacardi rum, fresh lime juice, and grenadine to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake Vigorously: Seal the shaker and shake hard for about 12-15 seconds until the outside is thoroughly chilled.
- Strain and Serve: Double-strain the contents into your chilled coupe glass to remove any ice shards for a silky texture.
- Garnish: Garnish with a thin lime wheel on the rim of the glass.
Pro Tips for Perfection
It Must Be Bacardi: This is one of the few cocktails with a legally protected name. Following a 1936 New York Supreme Court ruling, a drink can only be called a "Bacardi Cocktail" if it is made with Bacardi rum. Using another rum makes it a different drink entirely!
Quality Grenadine: For the best flavor, use a high-quality grenadine made from real pomegranate juice. Many cheaper versions are just artificially flavored corn syrup and will lend a generic, overly sweet taste. A good grenadine provides a balance of sweetness and tartness.
