Classic Daiquiri

Forget the frozen, syrupy concoctions. A true Daiquiri is a sublime, three-ingredient masterpiece: a pure, crisp, and refreshing celebration of rum in its most elegant form. This is the authentic recipe, shaken and served straight up.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz White Rum
  • 1 oz Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
  • ¾ oz Simple Syrup (2:1 ratio)
  • Garnish: Lime Wheel or Twist

Instructions

  1. Chill Your Glass: A Daiquiri is served "up" (without ice), so a well-chilled coupe glass is essential to keep it cold. Place it in the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the white rum, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker.
  3. Shake Hard with Ice: Fill the shaker to the top with ice, seal it tightly, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. The shaker should be frosty and uncomfortably cold to hold.
  4. Double Strain: Using a cocktail strainer and a fine-mesh strainer, pour the mixture into your chilled coupe glass. Double straining ensures no ice shards or lime pulp make it into the final drink, guaranteeing a silky-smooth texture.
  5. Garnish: Garnish with a thin lime wheel floated on top or a neatly trimmed lime twist.

Pro Tips for Perfection

Balance is Everything: The Daiquiri lives and dies by the perfect balance of its three ingredients. The 2 : 1 : ¾ ratio (Rum : Lime : Syrup) is a fantastic starting point. If you prefer it tarter, slightly reduce the syrup. If you like it sweeter, increase it. Find the balance that's perfect for you.

Use a Quality White Rum: Since rum is the star of the show, its quality is paramount. Avoid the cheapest options. A good quality, clean, and crisp white rum (like Plantation 3 Stars, Flor de Caña 4, or Havana Club 3) will elevate your Daiquiri from good to exceptional.
