Grasshopper

A classic after-dinner drink that tastes like a liquid mint-chocolate chip cookie. The Grasshopper is a sweet, creamy, and vibrantly green cocktail with a simple, equal-parts recipe that's as fun to make as it is to drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Green Crème de Menthe
  • 1 oz White Crème de Cacao
  • 1 oz Heavy Cream
  • Garnish: Mint Sprig (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill Your Glass: Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer to get it nice and cold.
  2. Combine and Shake: Add the green crème de menthe, white crème de cacao, and heavy cream to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake Vigorously: Shake very hard for about 15 seconds. The shake is crucial for chilling the drink and creating a light, frothy texture from the cream.
  4. Strain and Serve: Strain the mixture into your chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig or some chocolate shavings if you like.

Pro Tips for Perfection

Color is Key: For the iconic green color, you must use green crème de menthe. To keep the color vibrant, it's paired with white crème de cacao. Using dark crème de cacao would result in a muddy, brownish color.

Fresh Cream for Texture: A proper Grasshopper relies on the rich texture that only fresh heavy cream can provide. Shaking it well aerates the cream, giving the drink a light and smooth mouthfeel. Avoid using milk, as it won't achieve the same decadent consistency.
