Paradise

A fittingly named classic from the Prohibition era, the Paradise cocktail is a simple, fruity, and delightfully smooth gin sour. Its straightforward blend of gin, apricot brandy, and orange juice creates a drink that is both comforting and transportive.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz London Dry Gin
  • ¾ oz Apricot Brandy
  • ¾ oz Fresh Orange Juice
  • Garnish: Orange Twist

Instructions

  1. Chill the Glass: Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer to ensure it's very cold.
  2. Combine and Shake: Add the gin, apricot brandy, and fresh orange juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake Well: Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12-15 seconds until the outside is frosty to the touch.
  4. Strain and Garnish: Strain the mixture into your chilled coupe glass. Express the oils from a fresh orange twist over the drink's surface before dropping it in for garnish.

Pro Tips for Perfection

Fresh is Best: With only three ingredients, there is nowhere for low-quality juice to hide. Using freshly squeezed orange juice is absolutely essential to achieve the bright, balanced flavor this cocktail deserves.

Choose Your Gin Wisely: A classic, juniper-forward London Dry Gin works beautifully in a Paradise, as its botanical bite cuts through the sweetness of the fruit. This prevents the drink from becoming overly sweet and one-dimensional.
