Piña Colada

The Piña Colada is the ultimate tropical escape in a glass. This world-famous blended cocktail is a sweet, creamy, and irresistible combination of rum, coconut, and pineapple that instantly transports you to a sun-drenched beach.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Light Rum
  • 1 ½ oz Cream of Coconut
  • 1 ½ oz Fresh Pineapple Juice
  • ½ oz Fresh Lime Juice (optional)
  • 1 cup Crushed Ice
  • Garnish: Pineapple Wedge & Cherry

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the light rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, and optional lime juice to a blender.
  2. Add Ice: Add one cup of crushed ice to the blender.
  3. Blend: Blend on high speed for 15-20 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth and has a thick, slushy consistency. Avoid over-blending, which can make it too watery.
  4. Pour: Pour the blended cocktail into a chilled hurricane glass or a large goblet.
  5. Garnish: Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately with a straw.

Pro Tips for Perfection

Cream of Coconut is Essential: Do not confuse this with coconut cream or coconut milk. Cream of coconut (like Coco López) is a sweet, thick, syrupy product that is the secret to an authentic Piña Colada's texture and flavor. It's non-negotiable for the real deal.

Balance with Lime: While not in every original recipe, a small amount of fresh lime juice is a professional touch that cuts through the sweetness of the coconut and pineapple, adding a crucial layer of brightness and balance to the finished drink.

Fresh is Best: For the ultimate Piña Colada, use frozen chunks of fresh pineapple instead of pineapple juice and ice. This creates a thicker, more flavorful, and less watery cocktail.
