Russian Spring Punch
Created by the legendary bartender Dick Bradsell in London, the Russian Spring Punch is a vibrant and celebratory modern classic. It's a tall, refreshing long drink that combines a vodka sour base with the rich fruitiness of crème de cassis, all topped with a sparkling wine float.
Ingredients
- 1 oz Vodka
- ½ oz Crème de Cassis
- 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
- ½ oz Simple Syrup
- Top with Dry Sparkling Wine
- Garnish: Blackberry & Lemon Slice
Instructions
- Shake the Base: Add the vodka, crème de cassis, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake Well: Shake vigorously for about 12-15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is nicely chilled.
- Strain and Top: Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with fresh ice cubes.
- Finish with Bubbles: Gently top the drink with chilled dry sparkling wine, such as Prosecco or Champagne.
- Garnish: Garnish with a fresh blackberry and a thin slice of lemon.
Pro Tips for Perfection
Balance is Key: The beauty of this drink lies in its balance of sweet, sour, and fruity notes. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor. You can adjust the amount of simple syrup based on the sweetness of your crème de cassis.
A Kir Royale with a Kick: The Russian Spring Punch can be thought of as a more complex, fortified version of a Kir Royale. It takes the classic cassis and sparkling wine combination and adds a solid vodka and citrus backbone, making it a more substantial cocktail.
