Tequila Sunrise

One of the most visually appealing cocktails, the Tequila Sunrise is famous for its stunning gradient of colors that resemble a sunrise. It's a simple, sweet, and fruity highball that's as delicious as it is beautiful.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila Blanco
  • 4 oz Fresh Orange Juice
  • ½ oz Grenadine
  • Garnish: Orange Slice
  • Garnish: Maraschino Cherry

Instructions

  1. Fill the Glass: Fill a chilled highball glass to the top with fresh ice cubes.
  2. Add Juice & Tequila: Pour the tequila and the fresh orange juice into the glass.
  3. Stir Briefly: Give the tequila and orange juice a quick, gentle stir to combine.
  4. Create the Sunrise: Slowly and gently pour the grenadine down the inside edge of the glass. It is heavier than the other liquids and will sink to the bottom, creating the iconic layered effect.
  5. Do Not Stir: It is crucial not to stir the drink after adding the grenadine to preserve the beautiful color gradient.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with a fresh orange slice and a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately.

Pro Tips for Perfection

The Perfect Pour: To get the best sunrise effect, pour the grenadine very slowly. You can tilt the glass slightly or pour it over the back of a bar spoon to help it sink gently without mixing too much.

Fresh is Best: While any orange juice will work, using freshly squeezed orange juice elevates this simple cocktail to a new level. The bright, natural acidity cuts through the sweetness of the grenadine and complements the tequila perfectly.
